The Nye County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at approximately 12:11 p.m., Joseph Woolbright, a 55-year-old male inmate in the Nye County Detention Center in Pahrump, had a medical episode and was transported by ambulance to Desert View Hospital. Subsequently, the male was pronounced dead at 12:49 p.m. by Desert View Hospital Staff. The cause of death is under investigation by the Nye County Coroner’s Office, and has contracted the Clark County Medical Examiner to conduct an autopsy. The next of kin have been notified.
Since when is it not a conflict of interest to investigate your own department? This should be investigated by an outside agency for human rights violations, not to mention civil rights violations.
This isn’t Russia yet. Even inmates have rights, lest we forget “innocent until proven guilty.” Then we have the prohibition against “cruel and unusual punishment.”
Solitary confinement or cruel and unusual punishment?
